X Project is a nine-week unpaid internship at the world headquarters of Athletes in Action in Xenia, OH. This summer internship provides experience with a sports ministry as you explore how your area of study can further missions around the world. The internship also includes professional development, ministry skills training, personal discipleship and authentic Christian community.
In addition to 30-35 hours on the job per week (260 total hours minimum), you come together with interns from other departments for Bible study, personal & professional development, and training in evangelism & leadership.
Interns have the opportunity to get experience in: Sports/Event Management, Facility Management, Challenge Course Facilitating, Business Operations, Graphic Design, Video Production, Social Media, Management & Communication, Website Design and Management, Written Communication, Athletic Training and Sports Performance for a Non-Profit Organization.
Arrive on May 26, 2017
Depart on July 29, 2017
Each intern is expected to raise $2200 towards the cost of X-Project ($2400 for Sports Performance). Although you are not paid hourly, you will have minimal expenses and receive a weekly stipend towards gas and other spending. Housing and most meals are provided. Just like the rest of AIA’s mission projects, we will equip you to invite others to invest in you as you embrace this opportunity to grow professionally, spiritually and personally. Upon being selected for the project, we will provide a support-raising coach.
Interns stay in host homes that will provide a comfortable place to sleep, good food, and an “adoptive family” for the summer.
Here’s what a few previous X Project interns had to say about their experience:
"During X Project, I felt fully immersed in an environment that really developed me spiritually and professionally. Staff was so great at empowering me to be a relational, Godly leader. I never felt looked down on or shamed for my past or my struggles. I spent the summer learning to be and love my authentic self. XP was the perfect way to grow closer to Jesus through experiences and other believers.” – Annie Harwell (2016)
“God showed me that I need Him in every area of my life. I don't just encounter God in my quiet time. I can and need to have Him involved in my plans for my future and for my work in the present.” – Andy Sullivan (2016)
“Best summer of my life! Loved how X Project combined faith with real life skills in a context of Christ-like community. Thankful for the wonderful, lifelong relationships that were developed during our short time together.” – Amanda Samuel (2014)
“X Project was the perfect opportunity for me to grow professionally and, more importantly, spiritually. The constant surrounding of community allows for quality relationships to develop and sharpen each other. I also thoroughly enjoyed going through the challenging Principles of AIA, especially 'Victory Beyond Competition.' X Project was a summer full of challenges, fun times, and amazing community, and I would suggest this opportunity to anyone who is looking to grow in their walk with the Lord while gaining valuable internship experience.” – Kyle Holmstrom (2013)
